Happy Birthday Olive <3
When your fur baby is turning one, and you want to celebrate, the cake can be a tough part. I have a 3 pound, sweet as can be, little girl chihuahua, Olive. When researching ideas for her first birthday photo session I knew the cake had to be puppy safe. When she was young she suffered terribly from acid reflux so it was even more important that the ingredients would be agreeable with her special diet. |
Main ingredients:
Recipe and cooking directions.
Mix the egg, oil, and PB in a bowl. Mix well.
Sift flour and baking soda directly into wet mixture.
Mix flour, baking soda mixture with wet ingredients while adding shredded carrots.
Fold in carrots. I didn't use the full cup. It's your choice how much to add.
Press mixture into 3 - 4 inch cake pans.
Cook for 30 minutes on 350 degrees.
Let them cool while you work on the "icing."
I made mashed potatoes for the icing! I used 4 large potatoes. Added 2-3 tbs butter and tiny TINY bit of milk. Add food coloring, if desired! A little goes along way. I set aside 3/4 cup of white mash potatoes. After using my hands to mold the pink MP around the cake I worked with a knife to sculpt the shape. MP is very forgiving. Have fun with it! I used a normal piping bag and frosting tip for the white MP at the bottom. The tiny flowers are sugar cake decoration from Michael's! |
And there it is! So go enjoy this 100% dog & human friendly cake!

This is Austin Maverick! It's not often I get to use my aviator set and background. When Austin's mommy told me she decorated his nursery with airplanes I knew that she'd love this set up! I mostly like to keep colors and props neutral. It helps the photos stay timeless. This family will be able to love these images for decades without them "going out of style." The only way I get to keep making beautiful images for brides (and grooms) of the tri-state area is if you spread the word! If you know anyone that is recently engaged or looking for a wedding photographer please pass my information along. I'm one decision that they'll never think twice about!

(above) Herb needed a new individual head shot..
(below) Then we decided, since this was a husband and wife team after all, to do a pose that looked a little more like a "family business pose".
I really enjoyed having these two in the studio.. maybe I'll get to photograph the whole family next time!

Fun Fact: "When you learn conflict-resolution skills in the playroom, you then practice them on the playground, and that in turn stays with you. If you’re an older sibling and you have a younger sibling who needs mentoring or is afraid of the dark, you develop nurturing and empathetic skills that you would not otherwise have."

A Note About The Session: After talking to Tina about what she wanted from her maternity portrait session we decided that most of her photos would be photographed on a black background under "sexy light." The drama that this lighting can add instantly make the photos more intimate!
Fun Fact: It's surprisingly common for a father-to-be to start gaining weight, getting morning sickness and even feel cramps in his lower abdomen. The condition is known as a sympathetic pregnancy or the Couvade Syndrome, which comes from the french word couvee meaning "to hatch."
Her mom brought along a bouquet of fresh sunflowers to add to a few photos. The were the perfect addition to our portrait session! The banner that you see in the top left and bottom right images was from this cute little store on the main road to Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes, Delaware. This location is my new favorite! I used it for this year's tea parties too!
Kate loves being photographed by Miss Nicole! As of June she has a new baby brother to be photographed with!! Maybe we can convince mommy and daddy to get into a few shot next time! Catch you guys next year!!
Fun Fact: Sunflowers first grew in North America more than 1,000 years ago and were an important food for Native Americans. People from other countries like Spain took some back to Europe with them, and now they are grown in many other countries as well

When ever I come into someones home for a newborn session I always ask is there anything special you would like to include in the session; family heirloom, special made hat or blanket.. Mom and Dad broke out the Flyers gear and it was clear this was important to them and their family that joined to watch the newborn session. I don't normally schedule newborns past noon or 2pm, however for this session I arrived for set up at 4:45pm. With my newborn session last 3-4 hours I wasn't finished and packed up until 9pm! Shuwee that was a long evening, but well worth it!
Fun Fact: It would be great if your baby were born with the same awake/sleep schedule as the rest of the family, wouldn't it? Lots of babies seem to prefer the nighttime hours for activity, though, and the daytime hours for slumber. If your baby's fussy during the night, it's even harder on you, of course. Read More..
